Garden

A few days ago Joseph (in the pictures) came and said that our sweet potatoes and are carrots that we planted in our garden were ready.  So we went out to our garden and Joseph taught us how to harvest the sweet potatoes and carrots. It was really cool.  In the pictures it shows our harvest.  It was really awesome to see what I had planted.  I think I will try planting them again.

Football

Yesterday some Ugandan boys came to our house to see if they could use one of our footballs ( or soccer ball).   I decided to go play with them, so we went down to the field to play.  It was really fun.  We had three teams and we played a tournament.  My team won.  Today we played with them again with some of my missionary friends.  Sorry for the short blog but that is all I have to say.  It has been very fun playing with them.

American Thankgiving

Hello everyone.  I am so sorry I have not written a blog for a very long time.  Yesterday the Americans invited us to their Thanksgiving celebration.  They played football (or as we call it American football so we can distinguish it from soccer).  After, we went over to the another house to eat desserts.  At the house someone told the story of Thanksgiving.  Then we ate desserts and drank soda.  It was really fun.  I got to ride back with my friends on the roof rack on top of their car!  It was a very fun day.

Musana Camps

Yesterday we came back from the another New Hope site on Lake Victoria.  I am sorry that I don't have any pictures but there is not much power there and we forgot to charge our camera before we left so it had no battery.  It was a long 5 hour drive and there were huge ruts in the road so it felt like forever.  When we finally got there at 8 at night we were pretty tired.  But when we woke up on Sunday morning we looked out saw Lake Victoria.  It was really beautiful.  In the afternoon we hiked to a waterfall and climbed to the top of  it.  That was really cool.  The next day we walked down to the beach.  The beach was much different then it was a year and a half ago.  It was really big.   It was a long 5 hours to get there but it was worth it.

Long Time No Blog

I am very sorry for not writing a blog for a long time.  I have been very busy.  We went to the foreign staff  retreat then I had my birthday and then my mom left to go to Canada for three weeks.  All the rest of time I was trying to finish my school before my mom had to go back.  But since I finished my school I found time to write a blog post.  My Birthday will defiantly be one I will remember.  It was the day we were going to the foreign staff retreat and we were having it in Jinja three hours away.  We were supposed to leave a 9 but my dad had to have a meeting till 10.  When we finally got on the road the phone rang.  When my mom got off the phone she told us that are neighbours had stopped to get gas at Luwero a town 30 minutes from us and they had filled there car with diesel instead of petro.  And since we live in Uganda they didn't now what to do.  They finally decided that that they would take the whole tank out and take the diesel out.  So after waiting for 2 hours with them we finally got on the road.  After a long trip we finally got there.  What a Birthday!  That's all for now.  I will write again as soon as I can.

Safari game drives!

While our visitors were here they went on safari.  I also went with them.  I was the only person in my family to go.  We went on two game drives on the trip.  On the first one we saw a lot of antelopes at first.  Then we spotted a elephant.  The guide said that because it was alone it meant that it had been poached.  Then we saw a cut on its trunk.  After we saw the elephant we saw two hyenas.

After we saw many more antelopes and big cape buffalo and a big herd of giraffes.

On the second game drive we didn't stop as much because we had already seen it.  We were driving along when the guide told the driver to stop.  I looked where she was looking and it looked like a anthill but it was a lion!

It was a male lion with a big mane.

After that we wanted elephants so we went to the part of the park where there were elephants.  And did we see elephants.

We easily saw 50 or more of them in groups of 5 to 10.  It was very cool.  I had fun taking these pictures.

Guest Blog by Isabel and Dan (our Canadian visitors)

My friend from Canada and his cousin took some pictures of life around New Hope.  I hope you enjoy them.

A great storm was coming and going to rain.

This is us at church with John.

Some of the families don`t have nice houses or beds to sleep on.

We went to work in the garden and grow sweet potatoes.

THEY'RE HERE!!!!!!!!

My best friend from Canada came to visit with his dad.  His
cousin and her dad also came here too.  My mom and dad came with me to pick them up.  I wasn't tired when we went to the airport at 10:00 at night. I couldn't wait to show them everything at New Hope Uganda.  When we finally got back I couldn't believe they were here.

Kobwin

On Thursday we went to the other New Hope site with aunt Constance a lady that works here.  It was are first time being there so there was lots to explore.  Before we got there, there was a long 9 hour car trip. The Kobwin Children Centre is in east Uganda.  On the way we bought gonja a roasted kind of banana and chicken on a stick for lunch.  When we finally got there after we unloaded we went to Uncle Charles' house for dinner.  Uncle Charles is the manger for Kobwin.  While we were there I played with boys from the Family group there.  We mostly climbed rocks.  The rocks at Kobwin are huge.

While we were at Kobwin one day we went to Sipi Falls.  It was 3 hours away but it was amazing. There are three waterfalls and we viewed them in different spots.  On the way back we stopped in Jinja to have lunch at The Keep. They had very good food.  When we got back finally I was ready to sleep.

Hockey Night In Kiwoko

On Thursday night we went to watch the woman's ice hockey gold medal game in the Olympics in Kiwoko (the local town near us) on a satellite TV.  Our neighbours at New Hope went with us.  The lady had played at Boston Collage and coached some of the players on the U.S. side.  It was a amazing game! With 4 minutes left in the game the U.S. were winning 2-0 but we scored 2 goals and won the gold medal in overtime.  It was a bit  different though because we were sitting on plastic chairs on a dirt floor.  It was a great experience.

Going swimming!

A few days ago we went swimming in Jinja for one of my friend's birthday.  It was a long 3 hour drive to the swimming pool but it was very fun.  I had not been swimming for half a year so I had somehow forgotten.  After we waded for a while we had lunch.  That was very yummy.  After lunch we went down to see Lake Victoria (the city of Jinja is on it).  That was also very cool.  Then we went back to the swimming pool  and played with a Frisbee.  It was very very fun.

Visitors

When are Visitors left we ran up the hill to wave goodbye.  On the walk back I was thinking about who would come next.  So far we don't know of anyone coming.  I like having visitors because it is something to look forward to.  I hope one of you will come to visit next.

Dan

The house we are living in now is right beside a family group called Jonathan Family.  In that family group there is a boy called Dan.  He is about my age so we play together a lot.  We usually play kick the can but sometimes we ride bikes.  We get along well and have fun!
